NaNo 2019 Days 16 & 17 — Catch-up weekend

Weekends are such a great time to relax. Unless it’s NaNo, in which case they’re a good time to build wordcount and/or catch up to where you’re supposed to be.

While I didn’t find myself totally caught up after the weekend, I did add a good number of words, and I’m happy with a few additions my characters made to the story:

  1. My MC and I realized that, being from another kingdom and a lower class, she wouldn’t necessarily know how to dance, so we brought in a dance instructor.
  2. Bartleby showed up again, and maybe he might go to the ball as well? But he wasn’t part of the dancing lessons, so we’ll have to figure that out for him.
  3. Turns out it’s a masked ball. Who knew?

The process of discovery is a huge part of the writing (much more than I ever knew before I attempted a full-length novel), and it’s certainly part of what makes it fun. As many NaNo-ers will tell you, you don’t look at books the same way again once you’ve attempted writing one. That’s probably the subject for another post, so for now…

Happy NaNo-ing!

I’ll be blogging my NaNo 2019 journey right here, so feel free to follow along. And tell me in the comments about something you discovered about your story as you wrote it!
