NaNo 2019 Day 7 — NaNo = Life

It’s not difficult to come up with a metaphor where NaNo represents life.

  • You have a goal(s)
  • Sometimes you hit it, sometimes you don’t

  • On the days when you’re ahead, you feel great
  • On the days when you’re behind, less so
  • Sometimes you’re optimistic, sometimes frustrated, and those times don’t always align with your progress on the goal(s); sometimes it’s just how you feel
  • Sometimes you forget about actually working on the goal in favor of writing a parody song about the goal(s)
  • No matter your progress to goal, you keep pushing; except on the days when you don’t
  • But the goal(s) is still worth shooting for
  • You’re still great, and your life is still worthwhile, whether you meet the goal(s) or not

I could go on and on, but you don’t need me to. You’re probably living it.

I am too. Day 6 of NaNo was one of those days where the creativity was flowing, and the wordcount came easy. Then I woke up on day 7 and I had to do it all over again.

But work got in the way. And life got in the way. And tiredness got in the way. And I ended the day with just a few hundred additional words.

So, even though I was all caught up on Wednesday, Thursday left me behind once again.

But that’s life, and tomorrow’s a new day.

I could quit, but I won’t. I’m just going to have to give myself the grace to try again.

I’ll be blogging my NaNo 2019 journey right here, so feel free to follow along. And let me know in the comments how your NaNo journey is going.

  1. I thought the goal was to keep moving forward, not to punish yourself for “falling behind the total.” Any progress is success…. go
